The pagoda in front of the Ngoc Son temple (a nice, shady resting spot for everyone) |
Looking across the lake from the island (you can see the tall, skinny buildings rising up above the skyline) |

Another angle of the pagoda |
The front of the temple (notice the incense burning?) |

Daddy and his two wonderful kids! |
Here's the 550 lb tortoise from the lake (about 4' long) |
|
|
The first chamber of the temple |
There were lots of statues in the second chamber |

Looking back on the red foot bridge |
We ran into Les & Sarah so they took our picture |
|
|
After all that heat, we stopped for some ice cream;
Eli really enjoyed his first taste and kept going
back for more
|
Here's another turtle memorial; apparently in the 15th
century, a large tortoise from lake Hoan Kiem grabbed a special sword that had been used by the ruler, Le Loi. |

|
After ice cream we went shopping and found these awesome kids shirts for Eli (they were about $2 ea
after we haggled with the street vendor). |
We also got Katie and Eli their own Ao Doi outfits for really cheep (even though many of our clothes are made
in Vietnam, they're a lot cheaper when bought over here) |

Eli loves practicing standing on his own. He especially likes it because he know's it will get a reaction out of Mama and Daddy. |
