Day 46 - July 2nd

After such a rough day yesterday, we were blessed with a good night of sleep and a big, hearty breakfast in this morning (our hotel provides it complimentary with your stay). Breakfasts here are much different; at our hotel they serve a buffet full of salads, rice, meet, cheese and fruit. For westerners, they do have toast and a small amount of cereal (as long as you don't mind eating with milk that's thicker than whipping cream).
After breakfast, Katie and Momma took a long nap while Daddy spent some quality time reading. Once everyone woke up, we headed out for a walk around town. We had seen a park while driving to different places, so we did our best to find it by foot. After only a couple wrong turns, we stumbled across it.
We later found out that the park is called Panfilov Park. It's filled with acres of dense trees and lush grass with benches and paths meandering throughout. In the middle is at beautiful orthodox cathedral with tons of bright colors. We also found a massive square with memorials commemorating the fallen soldiers from both world wars; they were very large and impressive!
After being out and about for a few hours, we headed back to the apartment for a late afternoon nap and some down time. Even though we are still really homesick and worried about all the plans, it was nice to do something to take our minds off everything. If we had come to Almaty for a vacation, it would be very enjoyable; we feel bad that we don't have the ability to enjoy it more, but we are so focused on getting home and continuing to adjust to having Katie with us.

The smirk on Katie's face is not normal for feeding time!

The first park we found today had nice fountians to keep us cool!

Katie loved watching the water, just like she loves her baths

Near the fountians & monument (right) were beautiful flowers

Panfilov Park was full of shade trees & lush green grass

A beautiful all-wood building in the park

This building at the edge of the park very large and impressive
