Day 31 - June 17th
PAGE 3: Getting Ready for Baby!
On our way home today, we had lots of shopping to do since we won't be able to go to stores when we get Kaite. We bought lots of veggies and baby supplies, got some pictures printed, then headed home to get everything set up and get ready for the big day tomorrow.
At 8:00, Erken and Dinara came by with a crib for us to use while Katie is staying here. After Kevin helped Erken take the pieces up to the third floor, they began putting it all togther. (So much for porta-cribs.) While we were constructing it, Erken told us that this crib had once belonged to a good friend of his who is now high up in the Kazakh government. We figure that if Erken's friend slept in it and is now a political leader, maybe Katie will follow suit and run for congress, or even president! It is kind of funny using such an old crib because we noticed that one of the side bars is missing and we were short one screw that helped give it lots of stability, but it is cute and makes our bedroom feel so warm and comforting.
Having a crib in the house is such an exciting sign that very soon (less than 24 hrs.), we will have a little one living with us! We have also been busy getting our gifts ready for the staff at the baby house. We hadn't planned on there being so many care givers in Katie's room (eight in all) so we've been scrabling for more gifts, but we think we finally have enough. We printed pictures and are giving a photo album to the staff with lots of pictures of Kaite. We think Katie is a favorite there because everyone is always stopping to say hello when we have her. Today the director was passing by, but she stopped to say hi to Katie. Instantly Katie's face lit up and she grinned from ear to ear (the smile lasted long after we had walked away). It was really nice to see that even the director knows the children personally and takes time to make them laugh (judging by Katie's reaction, we're sure that she's used to seeing the director on a regular basis).

Kevin going back through to re-tighten everything
(notice the missing bar? We moved that side so it
faces the wall now)

Sarah got to hold Dinara's nephew while they stopped by

The crib is finally ready

It fits nicely in the corner of our bedroom

We even put Katie's toys and books out on the shelf
